I can finally talk about something that is confirmed and it’s that I am going to Camp America!! It’s been a little while since I tweeted or spoke about this on social media as I applied a while back and I was waiting until everything was confirmed before I wrote about it on the blog. I now have everything pretty much sorted, just my Visa appointment at the embassy left!
I’m in Croatia this week so hoping to have some rest and relax before heading back to the UK for a couple of months of work before I leave. There a few more exams and things to get sorted in my spare time before I go and also wanted to write a little about my experience applying with Camp America. I’ve been selected as a Camp America Storyteller which means I’m going to be sharing a lot about what I’m up to as well as writing some posts in the run up before I leave for Camp.
It’s been months since I first applied and it’s finally all happening in the next couple of months! This job has kept me going through some tricky times but knowing I had this to look forward to has made being in the UK and working, a bit easier.
In January I returned to the UK after my time working at my winter season ended. It wasn’t the best time of my life and within a few days of returning home I was already looking at ways I could get abroad again. I applied for Camp America on the Wednesday, and they had a recruitment fair on the Saturday. It felt a little crazy, especially because I knew I had this time to re-evaluate and decide what to do next, but I literally just turned up on Saturday without thinking too much about it. Luckily I did my research and turned up with a few camps in mind that I would love to work at. After speaking to one or two, I found the one that actually hired me and had such a good feeling about the people I met.
The application process itself was really simple and getting hired in person made me feel really relaxed about spending the summer around the world with people I’d never met. The Camp America program was so straightforward and showed you exactly what you needed to do each week to further your application.
I have spent the last few months preparing, so a new post will still be going up every week even though I’ll be in America from June until around mid-September. I’m not going to be sharing which camp I’m going to be at specifically and I’m also not too sure of my plans for when Camp finishes but I’m sure I’ll be updating everything when I’m home.
Whilst in America I’m going to attempt to keep a diary so that when I’m home I’ll hopefully be able to write about where I’ve been travelling once camp has finished. I’m so excited to explore America as I’ve only ever been there for a few days before.
I hope you all have an amazing summer full of travel and adventure. Enjoy the new posts that will be going up every week. I’ve worked really hard on them but I won’t be on social media as much to share them so every little like or share really helps.
I post once a week covering topics such as solo travel, working and living abroad and also creating Gabriella’s Guides to places I have been. I cover topics under the following categories such as Planning and Packing, The Travel Diary, Travel Inspiration, Photo Diaries, Gabriella’s Guides and Working Abroad.
