This is the first new post on my travel website so, as much as I hate cringey introductions, it doesn’t make sense to start a website without any sense of who I am and what I’m doing so I thought it might be best to break it down into a timeline, especially as it’s the start of a new blog.
January 2017 – I was looking forward to finishing my third year of my fashion journalism degree and was getting ready to hand in my dissertation and start preparing myself for job applications upon graduation.
Fast forward six months to June 2017, it was two days after my final hand in at university and I was on a plane to Greece for my first summer holiday in three years with my best friend. We were going to be sailing around the Greek Islands for a week with a company called Medsailors. We had the best week travelling around, living on a boat and meeting people from all over the world. It was after we had possibly had too much to drink one night, that me and my bestie decided that our lives were going exactly as planned but maybe we didn’t want them to. We came back with some amazing memories of Greece and some really fun new friends but also a feeling that something needed to change.
Skip through a summer of me going away whenever I could, weekend trips with my sister, a family holiday and a few different applications to spend the next summer abroad and that will bring you to September which is where I handed in my notice at my job as a manager in the customer service industry, and also gave notice on my lovely modern apartment in my uni town where I had been living since graduation. I had decided to move home to save money and see what I could do with those extra savings whether or not that be to use the money to go travelling or to be able to work abroad, I wasn’t sure, I just knew I needed to try something new. It wasn’t that I hated my job, or hated where I lived, but it wasn’t enough for me to be sitting in one place when I could be doing literally anything else in the world that meant I could explore.
The idea of me starting a travel blog, may seem a little odd, I studied fashion journalism for the last three years and before that, I ran different fashion blogs under different names that meant I had some pretty great opportunities. Fashion still holds a place in my heart and I love writing, but I think especially in blogging, that you need to write about what you are passionate about, what you can’t stop thinking about because there are so many bloggers doing similar things. Enough with the life story, if you’ve even made it this far! I hope you stick around and follow as this is only the first post so maybe it’ll get better? As a creative I love visual sites like Instagram and Pinterest so have a look at those. Hope you enjoy seeing where I’ve been on my travels this summer and also my plans for next year.
I post once a week covering topics such as solo travel, working and living abroad and also creating Gabriella’s Guides to places I have been. I cover topics under the following categories such as Planning and Packing, The Travel Diary, Travel Inspiration, Photo Diaries, Gabriella’s Guides and Working Abroad.
