Writing about my travel experiences is something I’ve always wanted to do. Starting a travel blog after uni seemed natural as I love to write and love to travel. It’s only now that I’m reading more and more inspiring travel blogs, that I’ve realised I haven’t actually shared that much about me. I hope this post gives you a little insight into my travel story as well as where I have been. I’m going to include my plans for the rest of the year especially now I’m back in the UK, I’m so close to Europe and would love to spend a few more weekends exploring the countries closest to me.

So I think my travel obsession started when I was around 15 and my sister and I went on a month long trip to Australia to see my family over there. We flew over on our own, (she was 16 and I was 15 at the time), and we stopped over in Abu Dhabi and I remember feeling really excited at the idea of going somewhere just us two until we arrived in Australia. I’d been on holiday before but this trip was so unlike a holiday because we were there for a month.

We spent that month living with our cousin in Lakes Entrance and he had horses and jet skis which we spent a lot of time with. I also helped out at a stable nearby so I could have some riding lessons whilst I was there. We’d go to the beach a lot and just generally explore. We drove up to Sydney and spent a few magical days there. When we got home, all I wanted to do was go back to Australia. I even looked at going to University there because I’d had such an incredible time.

After Australia, we had the usual holidays to places such as Gran Canaria, Kos or Cyprus but nothing was ever like that month away. During school, college and university I’d also taken part in trips to France, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain and little weekend breaks as well as holidays with friends. I’m quite lucky in that I’ve also been on holiday to Morocco and have always loved exploring new cultures.

Summer 2017

After university ended, my friend and I took a trip to Greece with Medsailors which I’ve written about here. After that week away, I kept an eye on my sisters rotas as she was working as cabin crew and I could go with her quite cheaply and experience a new place. With her I went to Johannesburg which you can read about here and also to Vegas, which I am yet to actually write about. Flying with my sister was an experience that I loved and if you’re interested in being cabin crew, I’d say do it 100%, it’s an incredbile lifestyle. That summer we also took our last family holiday to Cape Verde and we went to Boa Vista which is a tiny island. We did some really fun excursions and I loved visiting a country that was so untouched by tourism.

As I’d finished uni and had been bitten by the travel bug quite badly, I worked on saving up to be able to travel again whilst also applying for jobs which would enable me to work abroad. I got a job as a travel rep and also booked a one way ticket to Bangkok to “treat myself” before starting my job as a rep. Then I flew to Bangkok in February 2018 and travelled solo around Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia until I had to come home, to start my job in April as a travel rep in Tenerife. I had the most incredible time away and have written quite a lot about it and you can find those posts about my time Asia, here.

Summer 2018

Moving to Tenerife to work was something entirely new to me as I’d studied journalism at university and had spent the last three years waiting to graduate so I could work for fashion magazines. Now I was working in 5* hotels and scuba diving on my days off. I’ve written about the different things you can do in Tenerife as it is quite a small island, so after eight months there I felt like I’d done a lot of what there was to see. I’m going to be writing a little more about my time as a rep but am taking my time as I want to cover everything from applying, to working in another country to coming home.

I loved the job and worked there for eight months with not really much of a plan for what I would do when the season ended. As everyone came to making their decisions for the winter season I decided I wanted to do a ski season with another company and got placed in Andorra. Whilst I didn’t last the whole season I lived in Andorra for around two months and that brings me to now.

I’m now back in Brighton, and after moving out five years ago it is so nice to be back and close to my family. I’m planning a few European trips and city breaks but mostly I’m happy to be working and saving for my next adventure whatever that may be.

I would love to hear about your travel story and where you have been!

oh my I love this post! Lets start with how lucky are you to have a sister who works in cabin crew! Your travels sound really fun aswell. What was the ski season lifestyle like? Was it messy? I’ve had a friend thats done it and said it’s fun but a lot of alcohol involved.

Thanks! Yeh it definitely has perks! It was a lot of fun but yeh very messy, I might do one again one day but not as a travel rep!

That’s so awesome that you liked Australia! I mean I’m biased because I live in Australia but I always love hearing about people’s stories of when they travel here and love it 🙂
